Reminds me of the little Bible comics I got in Sunday School as a kid.

Perfect for Good Friday.

Also-- love the striped hair overlaid with blue dots!
Grant, this is from "Picture Stories from the Bible: Complete Life of Christ Edition," 1944. It was published by the company that would soon become E.C. Comics. I don't know a lot about the use of lines (along with dots) in process printing, but they are common (though not universal) in the late '40s and very early '50s comics I have. It appears that the red dots in this image are the 25% value and the red lines are 50%. Check out this detail of a "brown" suit, in which all three colors are lines: http://4cp.posterous.com/37-239
